TRANSPORTATION OF PETS

To transport birds or animals by air, you must notify the airline well in advance. Transportation is permitted only upon prior arrangement and approval.

When traveling with a pet or bird, you must present veterinary documents confirming the animal’s health at check-in. These documents must be issued by authorized veterinary services.

For outbound international flights, applications for veterinary certificates for small domestic pets can be submitted online via the “Ecert” information system on the official website of Rosselkhoznadzor.

For consultation on obtaining veterinary certificates for animal export, please contact: 8 (8422) 46-03-61 – Department of State Veterinary Control and Supervision at the State Border and Transport of the Russian Federation.

Animals (or birds) onboard the aircraft must be placed in a container or cage that meets the following requirements:

  • The container must be of sufficient size and equipped with a secure lock.
  • It must provide adequate ventilation.
  • The container must have a waterproof bottom lined with absorbent material.
  • A barrier must be installed around the perimeter of the container to prevent the absorbent material from spilling out.
  • Bird cages must be covered with dense, light-proof fabric.

Transportation of animals and birds is charged at the excess baggage rate, based on the total actual weight of the animal together with its container. This does not apply to certified guide dogs accompanying passengers with disabilities, provided the dog has undergone specialized training confirmed by an official certificate. Guide dogs are permitted in the cabin only if wearing a collar and muzzle, and must remain securely tethered to the passenger’s seat at the owner’s feet throughout the flight.
